Who & Where We Help

HART is a registered charity run entirely by volunteers that is dedicated to rescuing abandoned and ailing, stray and owner-surrendered dogs in the Bancroft, Ontario area. Dogs in our care come from a variety of sources:

  • owners that cannot keep them any more
  • the local pound and other pounds across Ontario
  • found stray
  • abandoned by previous owner
  • local vet's offices

Because we receive no government funding, we rely solely on private donations and the funds we raise ourselves. The dogs we rescue are placed in volunteer foster homes and fully vetted and assessed before being put up for adoption. Although HART is based in Bancroft, our volunteers and our foster homes are located throughout the province. As a dog rescue, we do not have the capacity to help kittens or cats.

When foster homes are available, HART will occasionally accept dogs from outside the Bancroft area. If you have a dog that you need to surrender and live outside our catchement, please email us. But we encourage you to first consider the rescues closer to you.

Cats?

As much as we love cats, HART does not have the network or resources to intake cats. We do have an ongoing initiative to help with the feral cat population in the Bancroft area and in 2013 we spayed/neutered 25 feral cats.
