Spay/Neuter Incentive Program (SNIP)
This program offers financial assistance for the spay/neuter of dogs and cats belonging to families that qualify within the Bancroft catchment. Our coverage area is bordered in blue.
Because HART receives NO government funding, SNIP is funded solely by donations from private individuals and through our own fundraising efforts. Each application must be assessed and approved by our Board before an appointment with the veterinary clinic can be made.
To qualify for SNIP, you must have:
- A combined family income of LESS than $40,000 a year.
- A pet at least 6 months old.
- A pet in good physical health (to be determined by a vet before surgery).
Intact FEMALES are given priority.
We are currently unable to fund MULTIPLE pets in the same household.
Depending on your financial circumstances, HART will cover all or a portion of the spay/neuter costs. Our Board will determine your portion and inform you of its decision before final approval is given.
Your portion may range from $0 to $170 for a dog, and from $0 to $132 for a cat.
The spay/neuter costs also include vaccinations if your pet is not up to date. (There is no reduction in the SNIP fee if your pet is already up to date).
One month after the procedure, we ask that you please donate $20 to HART.
Your donation helps us assist other responsible, but needy owners to spay/neuter their own pets.
If, however, the vet determines that your pet is not healthy enough to be spayed/neutered, you will be refunded the difference between the SNIP payment and the cost of the vet visit (plus vaccinations, if already administered and not yet paid for by you).
PLEASE NOTE: HART does NOT cover the costs of any additional medical services that may be recommended by the vet (e.g. dental cleaning or blood work).
HART thanks you for wisely choosing to spay/neuter your pets. In doing so, you are not only helping control our stray animal population, but you are also protecting them against a number of potentially life-threatening illnesses in the future.
