Say hello to little guy Otis, a 6 year old Chihuahua/Yorkie mix. He came to us an owner surrender when his owner's life circumstances changed. Cute as a button, he starts off shy with new people but given time and patience, he comes around and couldn't be more affectionate.
At 6 years old, Otis is past puppy shenanigans but that doesn't mean he can't zoom around like the best of them. Granted his zoomies don't last terribly long but boy are they cute. He does enjoy toodling outside and going for walks, walking nicely on leash. Mostly he likes to perch on the backs of sofas or chairs or even better, nap somewhere on you, like your lap. He tucks himself in and will stay there for as long as you let him. He is very happy with his own family, super sweet and loving. He can be nervous of new people, preferring to bark about their arrival and keep his distance, approaching when he is ready. His new family will have to be patient and not push him outside of his comfort zone too quickly. We promise that the wait is worth it!
As cute as he is, Otis is not suited to living with other pets. He can be a bit of a tyrant. He is usually ok around calm dogs but put a young, fast moving dog around him, and he becomes barky. In addition to just barking at new dogs, he will guard his person (by barking) against any young interlopers that dare to simply say hello. He has been exposed to cats and firmly believes they also need to barked at, sometimes chased. He takes his job of companion very seriously, don't you know!
What else? Hmmm. How about some answers to common questions... Otis requires regular brushing/trimming of his silky soft coat and handles grooming fairly well. Nails trims aren't his favourite thing but he isn't horrible about it. He is house trained but not crate trained. He has no issue being left alone and is not destructive. He does not ride well in a vehicle. He is not suited to living with children under the age of 12.
All in all, once he knows and trusts you, he is a sweet, funny boy. The key with him is to let him get to know you and not rush the relationship. Once a bond is established, he will be the best and most loyal, loving companion you can imagine.
Otis is neutered, up to date with his vaccines, heartworm tested negative, microchipped and been dewormed. He also comes with a certificate for one month of free pet insurance.
